The leaves emerge deep wine-purple and retain their dramatic colour throughout the growing season before developing vibrant shades of scarlet, orange and red in autumn.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDuring summer, clouds of delicate pinkish-purple flower plumes appear above the foliage, creating the soft, smoky effect that gives this beautiful shrub its common name. Its bold colour and architectural form make it an impressive specimen plant or a dramatic addition to mixed borders.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePlant in full sun for the richest foliage colour, although it will also tolerate partial shade. Grow in fertile, well-drained soil and water regularly while the plant becomes established.
