This genus is particularly well known for the medicinal properties found in the sap of the Aloe vera plant. However, Aloe is used to describe over 500 plant species found across Madagascar, Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. This genus have adapted to store moisture in their leaves to survive the dry, rocky climates they are native to.
