An impressively large leafed plant which deserves a beautiful spot in your home.

Commonly known as Elephant Ears or Taro, Alocasia are native to the tropical rainforests of Asia and Eastern Australia.

The root system of Alocasia consist of tuberous rhizomes which store a huge amount excess water and nutrients. For this reason, Alocasia are more prone to overwatering in the UK and the compost should be carefully checked between waterings. They should also be kept at temperatures above 16C.

Care Instructions

Light

Prefers moderate to bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can result in scorched leaves.

Water

Water thoroughly, then allow the top half of the compost to dry out completely before rewatering. This plant stores water and therefore overwatering can cause root rot.

Food

Apply a high quality liquid fertiliser fortnightly in the spring and summer. Do not feed in the autumn and winter months.

Humidity

This plant enjoys high humidity. Place in a bathroom and/or mist regularly with water. Or place on a pebble tray filled with water just below the top of the pebbles.
